Gyudzin Tantric Monastery
Our Mission

As there are no major centers of Buddhist teaching in Ladakh, this monastery shall fulfill that role for those who find it difficult to adjust to life in Southern India.

Students shall receive instruction in general subjects up to 8th grade and shall be trained in Tantric ritual tradition along with learning of tantric texts by heart. After completing this course the monastery shall provide instruction in five major branches of Buddhist teaching. Those being, Paramana, Vinaya, Madhyamika, Abhidharma and Prajnyaparmita texts. Students shall then have the options to persue a further five years study in tantric teachings to recieve a Geshe Nagrampa Degree.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama has twice lectured in Ladakh on its role in preserving Buddhist knowledge. He said the roots of Tibetan Buddhism originated in India and for many years Indian people preserved the knowledge of Mahayana Buddhism. Afterwards in Tibet, that knowledge was preserved by Tibetan Buddhist monasteries. Now the political situation in Tibet has led to a need for that knowledge to be preserved somewhere else, i.e. in Ladakh and the Himalayas.

Our mission is to build a monastery in Ladakh where the educational quality is the equal of that in Southern India and the precious knowledge of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition can be preserved.
